” Hi. My name is Susan Sprague. I have been a quilter for 32 years. My first quilt was a lap size triple rail fence, pieced in a Beginning Quilt class at The Quilt Rack in Sacramento. I burned out the motor on my old Kenmore trying to quilt it! Currently, I make both bed size traditional quilts and small modern art quilts.
I really love improvisational quilting and enjoy applying all the skills of traditional quilt making to creating new and original ideas. I quilt for the joy of wallowing in lovely color and soft fabric and turning that into things that warm the bodies and/or the hearts of people I love.
My mother was not a quilter but her mother was. My maternal grandmother made beautiful double wedding ring quilts for special occasions and heavy utility quilts from old wool and flannel clothing. On my father’s side, there were great aunts who did Victorian crazy quilting.
I currently enjoy not only making my own quilts but teaching quilt classes, primarily at Cloth Carousel here in Vacaville. I am delighted to be included in this exhibit!”
